Old Code Never Dies - It Only Fades Away
I've always been rather impressed with Google. An all around great company, the stock made a lot of people rich and they provide a wide range of useful, well-developed products. Back in the beginning of my blogging career, I used to post loads of photos to my site, which required a large amount of time on my part - resizing, tagging, uploading, finalizing, editing - you get the idea. Then, along came Hello (by Google). It could interface with Picasa (also a Google product) to upload a large number of photos to a blog in relatively no time. Sure, it was buggy at times, but it really got me through lot of my posts from the US and Japan.
Recently, Google has stopped support for a specific aspect of Hello called "BloggerBot" that automated much of the photo upload process. This made me sad, because it meant I had to go back to the old process of photo upload, a deadly slow method that didn't seem worth it anymore. Blogger offers an alternative to BloggerBot, but the process is not as clean and has a four photo limit per post. Who the hell posts only four photos at a time? Not me, that for sure.
And so, I haven't been posting photos (or text, for that matter) for the good part of a year. I flirted with Flickr for a short time, but it still didn't have the functionality I was looking for. I've decided to try a new program through Picasa, aptly named "Web Albums," to try and revive the BloggerBot fire. It may never be the same, but I hope BloggerBot has been retired to a place where all good code goes to live out its days.
